President's Message
Happy New Year! Welcome to the Chatsworth Porter Ranch Chamber of Commerce Website. I know it’s late but I can still say Happy New Year because many of you I haven’t met yet. And I’m not officially President until I’m Installed on February 17th.
Let me begin by introducing myself. I am Kevin Huling, the Owner/Manager of Les Sisters’ Southern Kitchen, a New Orleans Style Restaurant located in Chatsworth. Les Sisters was opened in 1986. I became the Owner in June 1992, after the sudden death of my mother Clara Huling, a founding partner. I am a Valley resident since 1963, growing up in Pacoima. I graduated from
I live in
I’ve been a Chatsworth Chamber Board Member since 1995, a founding Board Member of the Chatsworth Business Improvement District, Chatsworth BID President 2009-2011, and have worked with the Chatsworth Rotary Club, Chatsworth Kiwanis Club, and the Chatsworth Neighborhood Council.
My priorities for the CPRCC Board this year will include increasing the CPRCC Membership roles. Currently, we have 304 members. Our goal in the next three years is to increase and retain the roles to over 500 members. This is our “Drive For Five”.
We are to improve our Community presence, via the Chatsworth Neighborhood Council, Chatsworth Historical Society, Local Schools public and private in Chatsworth and Porter Ranch, and through Service Clubs and Religious Organizations and Groups here in Chatsworth. And in keeping with our mission, “to support our members through leadership and advocacy by engaging in activities that enhance and strengthen the Chatsworth Porter Ranch business community.”
At our Chamber Retreat held last month, our Board brainstormed as to what we could do differently to distinguish us from the other area Chambers. And in the next few weeks we will be announcing our Health Care Summit to be held later this year. All we are awaiting is the venue.
Lastly, the Chatsworth Chamber of Commerce will turn 100 years old in 2014. And many of our efforts this year will be planning for the Centennial and the Member Directory for 2013/14. Are you as excited as I am?
I would like to thank the existing members of the CPRCC for their participation and support in 2011 and 2012. If you are new to the area, please consider joining. And if you are a Chatsworth Porter Ranch business that isn’t a member, why aren’t you. You are missing out on some GREAT opportunities to promote and grow you business. We’ll give you plenty of chances to join and participate, I promise.
I’d like to thank Mona Strehler, our Immediate Past President for her 2 years of service, and her successful efforts to improve the Chamber Operations and Community image.
She has done an outstanding job. And I very much look forward to working with Mona this year. A very special thank you to my mentor, Les Himes, whose tireless dedication to the Chamber has set a high benchmark for me to follow. Also, thanks the 2011 CPRCC Board of Directors for their participation, leadership, guidance and successful events. I’d like to welcome the 2012 CPRCC Board and thank them in advance for their commitment. I like I said during the recruitment process, “we’re going to have a good time, let’s enjoy the ride.”
Lastly, I’d like to encourage all members existing and new, to become involved by either attending and/or sponsoring our upcoming events, Mixers, Leads Lunches, Breakfast and General Membership meetings. And don’t come alone. Bring one of your business neighbors and the like with you and convince them to join. After all, you and your growing business or services are the best testimonials. You are going to form some long lasting and loyal relationships with the business people and professionals that form the CPRCC. I know that I have.
See you at the Monte Carlo Night and Chamber Installation on February 17, 2012, at the Porter Valley Country Club. Good times!
Yours truly,
Kevin Huling
