The City Council’s Jobs, Business Growth & Tax Reform Committee, which we chair, is holding a special meeting on Wednesday, Oct. 8, to discuss the nation's current financial crisis and its affect on our economy, local businesses and jobs.

At this Committee meeting business assistance organizations and City departments will report on the economic crisis and suggest resources available to help the businesses of Los Angeles during these uncertain times.

We will take the pulse and hear the views and concerns of the local business community amidst the economic problems. This is a public meeting, so no RSVP is necessary.





Enjoy the Granada Hills Street Faire This Weekend!

Don't miss the 8th Annual Granada Hills Street Faire, a great Valley tradition, on Saturday, Oct. 4, in Old Granada Village.

More than 200 local business and nonprofit groups participate. and giveaways at many booths.

Enjoy outstanding dishes from the area's restaurants and free entertainment including classic cars, dance troupes and live blue grass music. Children's activities include pony rides, a petting zoo, rock climbing, moon bounces, face painting and health screening services.

Don't Miss the Chatsworth Historical Society's Pioneer Day!
Join the fun at the Chatsworth Historical Society's annual Pioneer Day this Sunday, Oct. 5 at the Homestead Acre in Chatsworth Park South.

Sunday, Oct. 5
11:00 am - 4:00 pm
Homestead Acre
10385 Shadow Oak Drive, Chatsworth
(Within Chatsworth Park South)

$4 donation per adult, $1 for children, free for children under 5 years old.

All proceeds go to the upkeep of The Homestead Acre. The event features tours of the Palmer-Hill historical cottage and the Virginia Watson Chatsworth Museum, which has displays of Indian artifacts and Chatsworth railroad history. Visitors can sample chili from the chili cook-off, and enjoy arts and crafts, music, blacksmith and railroad construction demonstrations and games for children.

Free parking is available at the Chatsworth Train Depot, and we have provided free shuttles going to Pioneer Day every 15 minutes. The Train Depot is located at 10046 Old Depot Plaza Rd. (enter from Devonshire St. or Lassen St., between Topanga Canyon and De Soto Ave.)

West Hills Fall Fest...
Canoga Park/West Hills Chamber of Commerce invites you to enjoy their annual West Hills Fall Fest, Sunday, Oct. 5 at West Hills Center.

This community festival features vendor booths, food, arts and crafts, live music and dance performances, martial arts demonstrations, activities for kids, and more.

As part of the event's Green Theme, there will be an E-waste drop-off center. You can safely and properly dispose of old computers, TVs and other electronic devices that can no longer go into the regular trash.

Household Hazardous and Electronic Waste Collection Event at CSUN...
Bring your household hazardous waste and surplus electronic equipment to this free collection event at CSUN in Northridge, Saturday, Oct. 11 and Sunday, Oct. 12 from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm.

It is illegal to dispose of household hazardous waste (such as oil, paint, pool and garden chemicals, solvents, (etc.) and electronic waste (old computers, TVs, fluorescent lightbulbs or anything containing a microchip) in the regular trash.

When these materials go to landfills, they can leach into the environment, polluting air, soil and groundwater, posing a threat to the environment and public health.

Moving Toward More Humane Animal Policies...

As part of the City's efforts to reduce the numbers of stray and abandoned pets and move toward the goals of the "No-Kill" policy, the City passed a new spay/neuter law.

As of Oct. 1, pet owners are required to spay or neuter their cats and dogs that are older than four months. The fines for violations start at $100.

Pets that compete as approved breeds in recognized shows, as well as service, guide, police, military, and rescue dogs are exempt. Veterinarians can certify that an animal should not be spayed or neutered for health reasons.

The Winnetka Chamber of Commerce is holding its annual Oktoberfest Oct. 17 through 19 at Winnetka Park. The festivities include food, rides, games and more. We co-sponsor this event every year.

Sepulveda Basin Off-Leash Dog Park 11th Annual Dog Faire and Pet Adoption...

Bring your dog to a celebration of man's best friend at the Sepulveda Off-Leash Dog Park Dog Faire, Saturday, Oct. 18 in Encino.

Free admission and parking. All dogs entering the park must be spayed or neutered and have up-to-date vaccinations. During the event, dogs must be on-leash.

There will be low-cost vaccinations on-site. Other services include microchipping, discount spay and neuter vouchers, pet adoption, pet vendors, dog training demonstrations and more.

Groundbreaking of the Granada Hills Veteran Memorial Park Tribute Walk...


Join us for the groundbreaking ceremony of the Granada Hills Veteran Memorial Tribute Walk and statue, Saturday, Nov. 8 at 10:00 am, at the corner of Chatsworth St. and Zelzah Ave. in Granada Hills.

The Veteran Memorial Park, Tribute Walk and statue are a community project of the Granada Hills Rotary Foundation that we have been proud to support.

You can help support this beautiful and moving memorial to our veterans. For a donation, community members can order a Memorial Brick inscribed with the name of a person they wish to commemorate. The Memorial Brick will become part of the Tribute Walk.
