June 2002 A Message to the Community

President's Message

The Chatsworth/Porter Ranch Chamber of Commerce is about business and also about community. It?s about preserving the great way of life we have in Chatsworth.

We have worked with the community to keep abreast of what goes on in the city. In the last year several new housing development projects have been approved by the City of Los Angeles? planning commission. These approvals ignore the General Plan of the area. The planning commission has completely ignored the concerns of the community and so have your local representatives.

You may ask why the Chamber would be concerned about the community? It is because we are concerned that it will change the uniqueness of the area. We are concerned because no thought has been given to the traffic gridlock that newer developments will cause. No thought has been given to our already over crowded schools. No thought has been given to police and fire services which are all stretched to the breaking point now.

Even of bigger concern are the hills above Chatsworth and Porter Ranch. There are over 12,000 acres of undeveloped land (almost 4 times larger than Ahmanson Ranch) that developers are starting to seriously eye. All of these issues are sure to adversely affect the business community. The Chamber and the numerous community organizations all understand and even welcome new developments, but we believe they must be done with serious forethought to transportation and services issues.

We need to protect the nature and feel of the community we live in. Chatsworth is a truly unique area of the City of Los Angeles (or maybe the City of ?Camelot?) and we need to get involved to protect it.

Call the Chamber and get involved. Join the Chamber and help us increase the size of our voice. Get involved with the Chamber and have a voice in your community.
