On Saturday, May 3rd Mayor Antonio R. Villaraigosa along with Councilmembers Greig Smith worked with community groups to bring out thousands for this year's Day of Service. Volunteers can participate in making a difference in their community by planting trees, helping elderly with home care and repairs, pet adoption, graffiti removal and recycling to name a few ways.

June 6, 2008 Small Business Awards Breakfast was held at the Beverly Garland's Holiday Inn, Herman Berman, Inc. The United Chambers of Commerce of the San Fernando Valley awards small businesses of the year.

On Friday, September 19, 2008 at the Chatsworth Depot Train Station, Haley 15 and Kristen 17 two best friends who live in Chatsworth organized this event. They made memorial candles, each with the name of one of the people who passed away in the September 12, 2008 train disaster in Chatsworth. They also provided over 200 tealight candles for neighbors to light in their memory.

Sunday, Nov. 2, SZone joined Councilmembers Greig Smith and Richard Alarcón, LAPD and LAFD for a “Public Safety and Community Appreciation Picnic” to show gratitude to the public safety officers, community members, businesses and neighborhood groups that came together during recent disasters.
