I would like to share with all of you a portion of my remarks at the Chatsworth/Porter Ranch Chamber of Commerce Installation:

All of us here tonight are safe. You and I did not fall over any cliffs, financial or otherwise. We are business people. We face cliffs every day. We know, even if Washington D.C. doesn’t, that the only way to avoid falling over cliffs is to work together with one another, and to support one another. By building up each other, we build our own businesses. By meaningfully contributing to the community, by partnering with community elements like PALS, we structure our own cooperative success. By working through our disagreements, as well as our consensus, we become stronger, more robust, more resilient, and ultimately more successful.

Whatever problems we face this year we will solve. The talent of this incoming Board, the talent in this room, the talent in our business community, makes the resolution of problems inevitable. This Chamber, and this Board, however, will not merely respond to problems. This Chamber is visionary, future oriented, and it can make the impossible happen. With your help, with your meaningful participation, with your commitment, in conjunction with this year’s Board of Directors, you will witness the successful harboring of the impossible, and the subsequent safeguarding of that harbor.

When I was an LAPD captain I used to tell my officers and supervisors that my job was to make sure that they did their job. As this year’s president, my job is to make sure this Board does it job, which is to support you and your businesses. This year’s Board of Directors of the Chatsworth/Porter Ranch Chamber of Commerce pledge to you our total commitment to that end.
