What is SCORE?

SCORE is the acronym for the Service Corps of Retired Executives. It is a volunteer, non-profit organization of retired business people. These retired men and women have acquired a wealth of practical experience, in a wide variety of businesses, which they are more than happy to share with the persons whom they counsel. SCORE provides counseling at no cost to the client. SCORE counsels persons who plan to go into business and those already in business – to help them deal with problems, upgrade their management skills and improve their prospect for success.

Why the Need to Call SCORE?

Persons who intend to start a business can invariably benefit by discussing their plans with a SCORE counselor. Because SCORE counselors have no financial or other vested interest in the affairs of their clients, other than to help them succeed, they are in an excellent position to provide objective, impartial advice. They can often assess the probability of the client succeeding or failing. Counselors will encourage will prepared individuals and try to discourage those who are inadequately prepared.

Often just by talking to an uninvolved, knowledgeable outsider, persons already in business are better able to view problems more objectively. Many times, the SCORE counselor can suggest an alternative, and perhaps more effective, ways of achieving the desired result.

What Areas Does Counseling Cover?

SCORE provides counseling in areas such as: business planning, advertising, accounting, market and customer analysis, inventory control, cash and credit management and marketing. Counseling can be supplemented by attending SCORE management training seminars on these and other topics that are conducted at a number of locations throughout the greater Los Angeles area. A monthly calendar of seminars is mailed on request.

What Other Services Does SCORE Offer?

SCORE offers workshops and seminars. Some of the subjects: "Publicity, Promotion, Advertising And You", "Creative Sales Through Marketing", "Starting And Operating Your Own Business", "Developing Your Business Plan". SCORE offers a SCORE Success Club. Attend as many seminars as you wish during an entire year at a low discount price of $89.00.
